Printing press at Media Centre to close down

The printing press at the Media Centre in Blata l-Bajda which belongs to the Catholic Church is to close down because of financial constraints, the Curia said yesterday.

The press will close down next January and the eight members of the staff will be absorbed by other sections of the archdiocese.

The press required substantial investment to be competitive, and a considerable increase in sales, but this did not seem viable in the current market conditions, the Curia said.

The Church weekly newspaper Il-Ġens ceased publication in its print format last week and is now being broadcast online.
