Passenger evacuated from cruise ship

A 69-year old American man was medically evacuated by helicopter from a cruise liner today after falling ill.

The M/S Rotterdam, which was on its way to Malta from Alexandria, requested assistance after the passenger started suffering internal bleeding.

The passenger, Adalberto Herrera, and a nurse from the ship, were hoisted on board an Italian Military Mission AB 212 helicopter some 125 nautical miles south of Malta and flown to Mater Dei Hospital this evening.

The ship is due in Malta tomorrow (Tuesday).
