@Mark Borg
Maybe that's why I voted NO for the EU as I do not want to be part of the 'all Europe's situation'. You said that our deficit is around 3 to 4% at the moment and I tell you for sure that by the end of this legislation we'll definitely hit the 10 to 15% besides selling everything that we may possess. If this government be so lucky and win the next election then we'll consider ourselves with the other third world countries within 2 years time.

@Manuel Scicluna.
With your argument all Europe's situations is irreparible. I mean, our deficit is around 3 to 4%; many other countries have 6,7,8...even 10% deficit.

Fellow citizens, don't be so pessimistic;- They will only cut our social benefits to install a toxic incenerator. And they will do this to help us leave this torture island as early as possible. So if you haven't noticed, they are doing it for our own benefit!! Yippeeeee

Oh yes I am expecting the following: that the tonn taz-zejt will decrease by 2 mils, that the perzut will decrease by 1 mil, that the bott tal-corned beef will decrease by 5 mils, and that the wages will be frozen for the next 5 years and that the government will introduce the 50c tax on all medicines irrespective on which they are. And that the government will introduce a 50 euro tax on each door all over Malta. And I am also expecting an increase in the duties on documents for each and every transfer of property from the present 5% to 10%. And then I expect the finance minister to announce a decrease of 4 mils in the price of tinned milk. Ah that will be a budget tal-qawsalli or tal-qamar fil-bir. And then there will be mass unemployement to cap it all.

One should keep in mind that the problem in this country has escalated to an irreparable level. All our assets has been sold and the deficit is beyond control. So, what do we expect from this budget?

I don't expect anything significant in this budget. The stick will come later using the backdoor offered by legal notices. Expect the motorist to be especially hard hit, all with the excuse of the environment and pollution.

FINALLY. A round of applause for Tonio.
The suspense was killing me, and after all this deliberation, hopefully it will not be a halloween budget with NO tricks and some treats.

Alas, we now have a date. What abou the content? or is that not important as long as we balance it off during the rest of the year?

Mike Pace, would you know, for example, that in terms of average taxation Malta is ranked one of the lowest-taxed in Europe, and in terms of average taxation on employees (thus excluding tax on business) we are actually the LEAST taxed?
Do you you know that tax rates in many European countries are close to 35 to 48% - when in Malta only the relatively-higher incomes only approach 38?
Do you know that most countries have VAT rates of 21, 23 and even 25%?

" Paying what you spend is basic common sense". When was the last balanced budget 25 years ago? Gonzi is incapable of digging the country out of the very deep hole that the reckless spending and fiscal policies of the present and the past has left us in. Budget? What budget? Another hole into our pockets!

What a waste of time! I, like many others have already made our budgets. As usual we never balance it. The final vote should be taken after the votes of all ministries are debated in the village market place by an ad hoc committee made up of housewives, pensioners, youths and sick people who will consider not only supply but also demands.
