Parking to improve...for future generations
Mario Agius (Persistent Parking Abuse At The Gardens, October 22) should accept that, like all other car owners who reside in St Julians, he will have to await the time when he will be able to look down from heaven. He will then be thoroughly delighted. Our great grandchildren (maybe add a couple more "great's") will be the envy of the world for living here. One assumes enforcing the residents' parking regulations will be high on the priority list. They have mayor Peter Bonello rooting for them. To quote: "Our aim is to make St Julians a better place to live and work in for our future generations".
As far as Mr Agius and other common citizens of St Julians are concerned, the mayor is telling them to accept the status quo. Well, maybe the situation will get worse.

Dear D Vella, what you call a park is not a park at all but an area which is open to traffic where cars can park as long as their drivers wants to. As for what drivers do whether they are pot-bellied or skinny civil servants or private workers or whether they should catch a bus or use their own car is no one's affair. Public areas are for public use and that includes cars and no one should be obliged to pay to park when we are paying such high road and other taxes

@D.Vella When discussing between us we who live in Balluta or have Commercial Establishments on or round Balluta Square, the proposed 2 storey Car Park under Balluta Square we too came out with a similar thought and which we are ready to discuss with the local council. QUOTE: If a car park is constructed in Balluta being very near to other towns this car park will end up with cars belonging to people wishing to visit all other surrounding areas and not The Balluta Square and Balluta Establishments. An increase in Pollution to all those wishing to stay on the square. Our Council will be spending money and rendering a service to other councils nearby. Charity begins at home. The other two sites mentioned for Car Parks seem to make more sense(and Pembroke) as they are in the areas of Paceville and inner St.Julians. Our Council will then be using money for Owners of Cars who will be visiting or spending money in St.Julians. Yes then "OUR AIM IS TO MAKE ST.JULIANS A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE and work IN FOR OUR FUTURE GENERATION" That is why CONSULTATION is important when such projects are proposed and in their initial stages.

Dear L Galea, not the first time you shoot off comments before you have had time to think things through. I am complaining about people parking all day in a public park. Parks as such are meant for people to enjoy and the roads through them are meant for access such as loading or unloading for the yachts in this area, or in case of some emergency, not for the convienence of pot bellied civil servants or shop owners . If they don't wish to park in a car park or on a parking area in the road then let them get a bus. Parks are for people not cars and that includes children who are entitled to have somewhere to play safely.

D Vella Parking is not an abuse. Do you own the area? Since it is public you cannot prevent others from parking for any length of time and then allow local residents to park. That is discrimination such as in the proposed Sliema scheme which is to be contested in court by Mr Borg. If you want to always find parking get yourself a garage or rent one.

Has no one noticed,as I obviously have, the traffic situation at the Gzira Gardens overlooking the Yacht Marina?.Ever since the restriction on cars entering Valletta, this has become no more than a parking lot. Each day it is full to the brim with cars parked all day to the detriment of residents of Gzira/Msida and Ta Xbiex and others wishing to take a pleasant stroll on a weekday. Cars not loading or unloading or wishing to stay an hour or so should not be allowed in to use it as a free all day parking space. Why don't these three Local Councils take some action to stop this abuse?.
