Vittoriosa had lost all their matches in the Maltco KO competition but yesterday they gained their first win at the expense of local rivals St George's who had already qualified for the semi-finals.

St George's started the better team but as the minutes ticked away the Stars came more into the match and on 35 minutes scored the goal that proved to be their winner .

Michael Borg Olivier sprinted half pitch before releasing Gary Inguanez who slotted past keeper Galea.

Vittoriosa Stars had Beppe Muscat sent off nine minutes after the restart but on 71 minutes Anthony Bonello, of St George's, suffered the same fate and parity was restored.

St George's substitute Josef Dalli was unlucky when his shot hit the post and on 80 minutes the Saints could have equalised but Anthony Ewurum was a second too late to meet a Chris Ciappara cross.

Then, deep into stoppage time, Gordon Mallia was foiled by Henry Bonello and the Vittoriosa keeper saved his side again soon after with a fine save on a Silvio Sciberras shot.

Marsaxlokk 4
Melita 2

Marsaxlokk finished on top of Group One with maximum points after brushing Melita aside.

Martin Deanov and Peter Pullicino ran the show for the Southerners. The winning margin could have been wider had Marsaxlokk not missed several scoring opportunities.

Melita took the lead against the run of play when Julian Galea hit home from 25 metres out on 14 minutes. However, a minute later Dylan Kokavessis blasted in the equaliser .

On 17 minutes, William Camenzuli made it 2-1 with a shot from outside the box and two minutes later Deanov headed in goal no.3 following a Pullicino cross.

Melita pulled one back on 50 minutes when Galea was floored in the box and from the resulting penalty Kane Micallef made it 3-2.

But it was Marsaxlokk who continued to do all the running. They were guilty of some glaring misses but susbtitute Matthew Caruana sealed victory late on with a rasping grounder.
