The Bank of Valletta L-Istrina Piggy Bank Campaign kicked-off last Wednesday.
For the sixth consecutive year, the L-Istrina team and Bank of Valletta have joined forces in a spirit of solidarity to encourage children to set aside money for a charitable cause, in what has become a much-awaited fundraising campaign in schools.
The campaign was officially launched at San Gorg Preca Maria Assumpta Girls Secondary school in Hamrun, under the patronage of First Lady Margaret Abela, in the presence of Igino Xuereb, Chief Officer Operations at BoV. This was followed by a visit to De La Salle College in Vittoriosa. The campaign helps raise funds for those in need as well as raise awareness among younger generations about the needs of others within the community.
Ms Abela encouraged all school children to make their donation. Mr Xuereb reiterated the need for solidarity, confirming the strong moral values that pervade Maltese society, values that are encouraging for the wellbeing of future generations.
These school visits serve as a launching pad for the campaign, which will see as many as 5,000 piggy banks distributed in classrooms around Malta and Gozo, with the participation of over 70,000 students in government, church and private schools. Ms Abela plans on visiting a number of other schools throughout this campaign.
She will be joined in this effort by a number of local personalities who will be making their own school visits to encourage the collection of funds and raise awareness.
The final amount collected, together with a donation from BoV will be presented during the live broadcast of L-Istrina on December 26.
