Unions' group backs call for social pact
The FOR.U.M trade unions group has backed calls for a fresh attempt to reach a social pact between the government, employers and trade unions.
The call was first made by the Prime Minister when he addressed the FOR.U.M annual general meeting on Wednesday.
The group said it was ironic, however, that the FOR.U.M., which groups 11 trade unions with 11,000 members, was not part of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development, where the first attempt at reaching a social pact was made five years ago.

UHM and CMTU are the same entity. UHM is the biggest Union within CMTU. CMTU being a federation of UHM and some other unions. The 2 seats used to be of CMTU. Eventually the law was changed to give 1 of the 2 to UHM. This mainly to ensure UHM was always directly represented being the largest union within CMTU.

The union's representation on MCESD is 2 delegates for GWU,one to UHM and one to CMTU. The GWU should give one of it's seats to the FORUm and every union will have equal seats.
