Environment NGO calls for Budget funds for law enforcement
Nature Trust has urged the government to allocate funding in the Budget to beef up the police Administrative Law Enforcement section and the MEPA law enforcement arm. In a statement, Nature Trust also urged the government to invest in green jobs and in management plans for Malta's Natura 2000 sites.
"Environmental law enforcement is next to non-existent. The ALE Unit remains chronically understaffed, while the enforcement efforts of authorities such as MEPA are clearly very poor compared to what is needed. The NGO urges the government to beef up the ALE and give it full executive powers so as to be able to effect proper environmental law enforcement and not merely token actions," Nature Trust said.
It also called for more incentives towards renewable energy backed up by a national educational campaign to encourage more people to benefit from such incentives.

Logic tell me that the government instead of inventing the warden has done a re-organisation into the law enforcemnt to cater for the same service. The law enforcment would be making a profit. Some time ago this was done in a local Hotel, the security dipartment ending up making profit, instead of being of a burden!

In order for the government to show it has the environment truly at heart it must allocate the resources (both financial and human) that it really deserves; otherwise no real impact will be made to stop and hopefully reverse the destructive trend on the state of the Maltese environment. I am sure however that no such substantial allocation will be made in the forthcoming budget, because the environment is in reality way down in the list of this government's priorities, and such a move would require a drastic change in the government's short-term finances and strategy. One day soon we will all live to regret such folly.

as long as we have 200 million for a Piano monstrosity who cares about the essentials. It is only ribbon cutting and marble plaques that make the newspapers. The people's money is only used for propaganda.
