I have been following the correspondence about the fixing of mobile antennae on the Balzan parish dome. Some very good arguments have emerged, which the Church should heed.
Malta has a large number of archpriests and parish priests and, understandably enough, not all of them have the credentials required for the preservation of our heritage.
Some of these parish priests are quite knowledgeable on the issue, and this is very much to their credit. Others are not, but at least they are prudent and humble enough to seek expert advice in matters of patrimony.
But unfortunately there are a few who rush in where angels fear to tread. In such cases results speak for themselves, and the parish has to bear the brunt of wrong decisions. The Balzan parish story seems to be a case in point.
I humbly suggest that these parish priests limit themselves to the pastoral care of their faithful which is, after all, what they have been trained to do, and leave matters of patrimony to professionals.
