Instead of trying to predict what will be the winning factor the next general election and pontificating to the main political parties the way forward to win that same election, shouldn't Mark-Anthony Falzon (The Sunday Times, October 18), as an anthropologist, be researching the effects on society resulting from the introduction of divorce?
What social price will the country have to pay if it introduces divorce? Will the lives of our children be better off if divorce is introduced? Is it true that divorce breeds divorce? Is it true that the rate of cohabiting couples increases rather than decreases after the introduction of divorce?
Maybe Dr Falzon is one of the people on the island best positioned to enlighten us on these matters. Perhaps the available statistics and studies do not buttress his liberal ideological stance?
