Former world number four Thomas Enqvist has been named as Sweden's Davis Cup captain, replacing Mats Wilander who announced his retirement from the job earlier this week.

"Of course, it's an honour to be given this assignment and a fantastic heritage to take care of," Enqvist said in a statement on the Swedish tennis federation's website.

"I hope my experiences as a player will come in handy and also look forward to making the link between the (senior) national team and the junior players," added Enqvist.

He played Davis Cup from 1995 to 2004 with a 15-11 win/loss record and helped win the trophy in 1997 and 1998.

Sweden, who beat Romania in their Davis Cup World group play-off last month, face Argentina in the first round in March.
