GBR No.3 - engineering and metal products group

Small scale enterprises specialised in the manufacturing of metal products machinery and equipment, as well as in repairing and servicing ships and aircrafts have the obligation to implement the environmental conditions set out in this GBR. Regulations are aimed at limiting hazards related to emissions, such as spray painting or exhausts, waste accumulation and storage.

GBR No. 4 - Food Processing Group

This GBR has been tailor-made to meet and address the different requirements and environmental concerns of the food processing sector. These include small scale enterprises involved in the manufacture of a range of food products and beverages, including meat, fish, fruit, bread and wine. Major environmental concerns include fumes and odours from kitchens, emissions from boilers/generators, effluent discharges, waste generation and storage.

These proposed General Binding Rules (GBRs) have been drawn up by MEPA with the aim of assisting small scale businesses to achieve compliance with national environmental laws while avoiding excessive administrative burden. Both the proposed GBRs and Guidance Notes are being made available on MEPA website www.mepa.org.mt/gbrs. Comments can be sent to the Authority through email address: gbr@mepa.org.mt by not later than December 7.
