I have often complained that the Maltese have no conception of what giving a good service means.

Well, today, I happily eat those words. In the last couple of weeks I had two outstanding cases of excellent service and I want to publicly acknowledge them because too often only derogatory comments see the light of day.

The first was at Mater Dei Hospital... I arrived to visit someone whose surname completely escaped me. While I was floundering around wondering what to do next, a woman wearing a yellow uniform, obviously noticing my confusion, approached me and asked if I needed help. Within a few minutes and after a bit of detective work, she had the receptionist at the desk scouring for the person I wanted to visit. I was soon on my way to the right ward.

The other was at a BOV branch at Ta' L-Ibraġ. I had an uncashed cheque dating back to 2007. Within minutes the person dealing with me made a few phone calls and had the problem sorted. He also proceeded to save me a trip to another location which he was not obliged to do under the circumstances.

The helpfulness and the courtesy extended on both these occasions truly fills me with pride and hope that we Maltese are finally understanding what giving a service really entails.
