Obituary

AZZOPARDI. On October 21, at Cospicua home for the elderly, ROSINA of Cospicua, aged 87, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Ċettina and her husband Paul De Brincat, Ġużi and his wife Ġemma, Sue and her husband Joseph Debattista and Reno and his wife Anna, her grandchildren and their respective spouses, great-grandchildren, her brothers and sisters, all their respective families, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2 p.m. for Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Collegiate church, Cospicua, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

DIACONO - On October 22, at St Vincent de Paul Residence, VICTOR (Sculptor), aged 93, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his irreplaceable loss his beloved wife Antoinette, née Dingli, his children Joseph and his wife Veronica, Loraine and her husband Sandro Bruno, Andrew, Michael and his wife Claudette, his treasured grandchildren Trevor, Michela, Ian, Karl, Steve, Adrian, Karl, Timmy, Katrina, Daniel, Alan and Sophie, and his in-laws Rita Diacono, Mary Scicluna, John and Lilian Dingli, Josephine Gerada, Eileen and John Valenzia and Alice Dingli, other relatives and numerous friends. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul tomorrow at 9 a.m. for St Gregory's parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Ursuline Creche, Sliema, will be greatly appreciated. Special thanks to the staff of Padre Pio Ward at St Vincent de Paul. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

GALEA. On October 21, at Mater Dei Hospital, MARION, née Sammut, aged 79, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved and devoted husband Lino, her children Anna and Christopher Barry, Marika and Leif Karlsson, Simon and Jade, her grandchildren Matthew Barry and his girlfriend Petya, Ian Barry, Shaun and Bettina Galea, her sister in Canada Yvonne Mamo, her brother in Canada Eddie Sammut, her only nephew in Malta, Antoine and Lydia, cousins, in-laws, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 9 a.m. for Stella Maris parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

Skolasport in Gozo

This year's Skolasport in Gozo kicks off on November 7. Students from Year Four onto Form Five can take part in various sports - old and new - such as hip-hop, break-dance, table and lawn tennis, gymnastics, climbing, cycling, martial arts, handball, basketball, hockey and football skills.

Students between Year One and Year Three can join Kidz Blitz.

Transport will be available from all villages and back, however Year One students must be ferried by their parents.

Applications are still being accepted at the Gozo Sports Complex, where interested parties can obtain more information at 2156 0677.

Training on EU-funded Projects

The University of Malta will be organising two one-day training sessions on EU-funded projects, entitled EC Project Development and EC Project Management and Audits on October 26 and 27. The sessions will be delivered by Mr Balazs Bodo and Mr Gabor Kitley from Europa Media Corporation, Budapest.

Chocolate Festival

Malta's first Chocolate Festival will be held on Saturday evening in Ħamrun.

The festival will feature chocolate sculptures, cocktails and a big chocolate railway.

The festival will take place in the streets between the Ħamrun Scouts headquarters and the Immaculate Conception church. A free park and ride service will operate from the Park and Ride in Blata l-Bajda.

St Judas Thaddeus

The Feast of St Judas Thaddeus is going to be celebrated on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Capuchin's church of St Barbara in Kalkara with Mass said by Fr Hayden Williams OFM Cap, assisted by the local Capuchin Friars and with the participation of Mother Margherita Choir of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart.

Cats and more at Motekristo

The Malta Cat Club is organising its third Tica International Cat Festival on Sunday at the MonteKristo Estate in Luqa.

The festival will be Halloween themed. Two judges from Italy and France will be judging the cats on display, which include some rare breeds on show and in competition.

There will also be SPCA and HappyPaws awareness, wine tasting and entertainment by MonteKristo, brass bands, kids' corner and a classic sports car show. For more information, people can visit www.maltacatclub.com or call 9963 9733. The event starts at 10 a.m. and will be over by 5 p.m.

Power Cuts

Enemalta Corporation announced there will be several power cuts today due to maintenance works.

There will be no power in Dun Franġisk Sciberras, it-Tonn, Ġorġ Borg Olivier and part of P.P. Magri streets in Mellieħa between 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; in Xatt il-Palm and Ridott streets and their environs in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq from 8.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.; in parts of Sliema Road, Russett Street and Ċawla Street in Kappara, San Ġwann; and in Port Ruman, Kavalerizza, Kunċizzjoni, Sant Antnin, San Luċjan streets and parts of Arznell and Xatt is-Sajjieda streets in Marsaxlokk from 1 to 3 p.m.

Bible Society Mass

The Bible Society will hold Mass at St Andrew's Scots church, South Street, Valletta, tomorrow from 6 to 7 p.m. as part of activities for Bible Sunday.

The Director of Examinations has notified candidates that the timetables for London Chamber of Commerce & Industry - Series 4 2009 Examinations have been sent to the candidates concerned.
