War rooms to reopen at Christmastime

Restoration works at the Lascaris War Rooms are well underway and the World War II Operational Headquarters is set to reopen its doors to the public at Christmastime.
The rooms have been closed since 2005 when the company which managed them went bankrupt. They were this year handed over by the government to Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna to be restored and reopened.
During a visit by Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt and Lands Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi, FWA chairman Mario Farrugia said he had planned to open the rooms earlier but could not do so because of the lack of information about them during the war.
He said the war rooms were being restored to their original stat,e after they were modified in 1978. However, the plans could not be found in Malta and were eventually found in London.
Dr Gatt said this the project was closely associated with the Piano plans for the entrance of Valletta and a ring road would be linking the two ditches.
He also said three lifts, one of which is pending approval, would also be built to the heart of Valletta.

Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna does the best to safeguard history and culture, it is a big shame that some are blind. We restore our sites on evidence, we don't play around or deceive or show false statements to the public for cash or profit, we believe in the past generation and remember the great sacrifice they had to go into, thats how we are taught, by first find confidence and believe!!

The War Rooms did not need any restorations works. I had been there a few weeks before they closed and they where fine.
Interesting to note what works where done.

These thing do take time you know Mr Micallef, im sure the fondazzjoni will make another good job out of this , as it has done with Fort Rinella and its other sites , helping would be better then moaning about the time it is taking to re open !

It's too bad that tourists who plan to go to the exhibit don't find a sign which states "Closed for Renovations," because many tourists made the same trek as I did to the "Lascaris War Rooms" and found them to be closed. A litle notice would help tourists a lot!! And not one which is simply painted on a board; it should be typed out and legible for tourists to read.
