Double taxation agreements signed

Agreements for the avoidance of double taxation have been signed with Georgia and the Isle of Man, the Foreign Ministry said.

The agreement with the Isle of Man was signed by Maltese High Commissioner Joseph Zammit Tabona and the Treasury Minister of the Isle of Man Allan Bell. The signing ceremony took place at the Malta High Commission, London.

The agreement with George was signed at the Malta Embassy in Rome by Ambassador Walter Balzan and Konstantine Gabashvili, Ambassador of Georgia.

Foreign Minister Tonio Borg said that such agreements were part of a strategy by Malta to attract foreign direct investment and pave the way for Maltese entrepreneurs to carry out business with foreign companies. Foreign direct investment since European Union membership has more than doubled. Over the last 18 months Malta signed such agreements with France, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Montenegro, Qatar, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland and the USA.
