The Vikings Sailing Club have just organised the Malta Maritime Authority (MMA) ranking regatta for young sailors.
The race was over two days, with more than 30 sailors, hailing from the Birżebbuġa Sailing Club, the Young Sailors Club and Vikings, displaying their skills in Marsamxett and along the Sliema coast.
Alfred Mifsud, Vikings SC Commodore, and Capt. Richard Gabriele, from the Malta Maritime Authority, handed out various awards during the presentation ceremony at the club's headquarters in Hay Wharf.
The race officer was Peter Dimech, with sea sport veterans Peter Valentino, Anthony Valen-tino and Jovin Rausi forming the protest jury.
Sailing is becoming one of the most popular sport on the island. It has also been regularly included in SkolaSport, thus giving a great number of children the opportunity to practise under the direction of a dedicated team of experienced instructors guided by John Sammut.
The next racing event in the local calendar will be the National Regatta, to be hosted by the Birżebbuġa Sailing Club on November 7 and 8.
