Environmental permitting: General binding rules (2)

GBR No. 1 - hotel and restaurant group

The environmental conditions set out in this GBR are aimed at improving the environmental performance of small-scale enterprises in the hotel, restaurant and catering sector.

The main environmental issues arising at hotels and restaurants in Malta and which have been addressed in this GBR include litter and waste management, emissions from boilers or generators, odours from kitchens, sustainable use of resources and noise.

GBR No. 2 - Construction and Construction Products Group GBR No. 2 constitutes a standard set of environmental conditions specifically drafted to regulate SME's involved in construction works and/or in the manufacture of certain concrete, plaster and stone products. Site tidiness, waste management, emissions to the atmosphere and effluent discharges comprise the main environmental issues within this sector.

These proposed general binding rules (GBRs) have been drawn up by Mepa with the aim of assisting small-scale businesses to achieve compliance with national environmental laws while avoiding excessive administrative burden. Both the proposed GBRs and guidance notes are being made available on Mepa website www.mepa.org.mt/gbrs. Comments can be sent to the authority through e-mail address gbr@mepa.org.mt by not later than December 7.
