Customs seize illegal diesel

The Customs Department seized some 30,000 litres of diesel after tests showed it was illegally imported.

It said it took samples of the diesel, seized from 12 tanks and a truck in Żejtun last Friday, and established the diesel was not the kind imported through regular channels. The owner of the place inspected said he had bought the diesel from a local distributor.

Investigations are under way.

Last week, Customs found six tanks each containing 1,000 litres of suspected contraband diesel on a truck in Marsaxlokk. The truck driver had said the fuel was unloaded from a vessel in Delimara.
