Former Labour minister Lino Spiteri, in a brief comment about the events of Black Monday, was reported to have said he was ashamed they were perpetrated under a Labour government and welcomed Joseph Muscat's apology 'Black Monday Should Never Have Happened, October 16). I ask Mr Spiteri why he did not declare his sense of "shame" and why he did not offer an apology when the event took place. Was he himself, even though then Finance Minister, afraid of Maltese socialist (Mintoffian) savagery? Did he chicken out?
