I agree with Joseph M. Borg (October 21) regarding the lack of life jackets for those using the boats at Wied iż-Żurrieq.

Some three years ago I visited Malta and went to see the Blue Grotto.

The person in charge of the boat kept asking for more and more persons to get in the boat.

By the time we got to the grotto the outboard motor had cut out three times because the boat was overloaded. The sea was not rough but choppy.

There were a number of children in the boat too.

I wonder what would have happened if the boat had capsized.

I strongly urge the relevant authority to make it compulsory for life jackets to be issued and to have a visible sign on the boat as to how many persons are allowed in.
