Obituary

ARMENI. On October 20, at Mater Dei Hospital, EMANUEL, of Valletta and residing at Sta Luċija, aged 58, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Carmen, née Crane, his children Erica and her husband Mariusz, Francesca and her husband Kevin, Remi and his wife Daniela and Marianna and her husband Elkjaer, his grandchildren Norbert and Elenya, his brothers and sisters and their respective families, his mother-in-law Rakela Crane, in-laws and their respective families,nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.15 p.m. for the Capuchins' church dedicated to St Liberata at Kalkara where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m. followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request by donations to the Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

AVELLINO. On October 19, VINCENT, aged 79, passed away peacefully at Mater Dei Hospital, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his irreparable loss, Eileen B. Sant Fournier, his children Vince Jr and his wife Vicky, Veronica, Mario and Leonard and his treasured grandchildren, his brothers Tom in Canada, Joe and his wife Evelyn in Australia and his sister Rita. Last but not least Rowena, Fiona and David, Hadrian and their children Jerome, Hugo, Marcus, Samuel, Alex, Zak and Martina, other relatives and friends. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later stage.

BONAVIA. On October 20, at Mater Dei Hospital, Major EDGAR ROBERT BONAVIA, aged 81, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his deep loss his beloved wife Shelagh, née Camilleri, his children Alan and his wife Marguerite, Audrey and her husband Mark Micallef, Alison and her husband Christopher Ripard, his grandchildren Ian, Matthew, Stephanie, Rachel, Krista, Emma and Amy, his sister Barbara Tabone, his in-laws Barbara Bonavia, Gary and his wife Rosette, nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.30 p.m. for Jesus of Nazareth parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Deaf People Association, 45, Lascaris Wharf, Valletta, will be greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank the staff at the CICU for their care and dedication and regret they are unable to receive visitors. May he rest in the peace of the Risen Lord.

BORG. On October 20, at Mater Dei Hospital, ROSA, née Micallef, widow of Francis, aged 86, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Carmen and her partner Oliver, Lourdes, Joe and his wife Maryann, her grandchildren Francesco and Elenio, her sister Marianna, her nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.30 p.m. for San Ġwann parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. The family wish to thank the doctors and staff at M4, Mater Dei Hospital, for their dedicated care during her stay. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

Power cuts

Today there will be power cuts due to maintenance in the following times and places:

From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Borton Alley, part of Marina Street, Zammit Clapp Street and alleys 1, 2 in Marina Street, Pieta'.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Erwieħ, San Pawl, Santwarju, Għollieqa, Dun Belin Azzopardi, Salvinu Vella streets and Żjara tal-Papa Square in Mellieħa.

From 8 a.m. till noon in Għannejja, Qajjenza and Kitarristi streets, and Wesgħa Ramon Perellos in Birżebbuġa.

Italian language week

The Italian Institute for Culture in Malta is organising a series of activities as part of the week of the Italian language in the world.

Today, at the University of Malta's campus there will be a practical workshop on Giotto from 9 to 11 a.m. and a lecture on the restoration of Mattia Preti's painting of St Catherine by Rev. Gino Gauci from 11 a.m. to noon. On Thursday at 5 p.m., Prof. Vito Francesco Palcaro will give a lecture entitled Premi Nobel Italiani: Un Secolo Di Scienza Tra Eccellenza E Fuga Di Cervelli on the University campus.

On Friday at 7.30 p.m. there will be a concert for clarinet, piano and soprano at the Old University in St Paul Street, Valletta, featuring works by Rossini, Mascagni, Puccini and Hoffenbach, among others.

On Saturday at 12.30 p.m. at the St George's Basilica in Victoria, a concert will be performed by the trio Armani, Marcante and Tamiozzo, including pieces by Albinez, Granados and Mutto, and on Sunday at 7.30 p.m. the trio will accompany Mass at St Patrick's church in Sliema.
