Customs Department finds more contraband diesel
The Customs Department said today that tests had shown that a quantity of diesel seized in Zejtun on Friday was contraband.
The department said that 30,000 litres of diesel were seized from 12 tanks and a truck.
Last week, the Customs Department said six tanks each containing 1,000 litres of suspected contraband diesel were found on a truck in Marsaxlokk. The truck driver had said that the fuel was unloaded from a vessel in Delimara.

It is an open secret that duty free diesel supplied to professional fishing boats, ships, and other cuisers leaving our shore end up sold illegally on the local market. This fuel is identifiable in the laboratory. More should be done to curb this abuse, and I suggest that any person found guilty of such acts should be barred from receiving any further supply of duty free fuel. Only in this manner the abuser would feel the pinch.

I do hope that this fuel was not the same fuel intended for and paid for use in the Power Station - it would help explain some of the losses.
Not accusing anyone of anything - just a thought.
