UHM orders industrial action
Workers in the 'agriculture class' at the Resources and Rural Affairs Ministry have been ordered not to use any means of communication or to work on websites.
The action was ordered by the Union Haddiema Maghqudin which said there seemed to be a lack of interest for negotiations on the revision of the collective agreement to start. No tangible reply had to be given to the UHM on proposals it submitted weeks ago.
The agreement was last revised 10 years ago.

All unions in all countries have recognised the repercussions brought about by the global recession which left Governments and industies in great financial crisis. But not in Malta. Here our unions continue to press for better conditions of work and pay when they should know that Govt cannot afford to go further in debts to meet their demands. Of course they found a weak and perhaps irresponsible one too.

Where were you when UHM under Dom.Mintoff's Govt.made a claim for a wage increase of LM 9.00 weekly????? Was it good then?????? How many LM 9.00 (not Ewros) did UHM claim for workers under PN govt's in the last 20 years???? It is known to everbody to which party UHM belongs!!!! The problem is that GWU cannot support Labour-------but all other unions have the blessing to support PN . To mention one example------Everybody knows what Mr.Vince Farrugia did recently!!!!

This short item confirms the great difference between the UHM and GWU. The former has been taking industrial action against the PN goverment in various departments and on numeous occasions, whilst the GWU did not even take action under Dr. Sant' s government when energy rate were increased astronomically at a time when the price of oil was ONLY 12 Dollars per Barrel.
Having stated this once I have recently critisised the GWU for possible action in Air Malta,
I must show my surprise and disaproval of the actions taken by UHM at a time of a global recession when in most EU countries most Unions are being more prudent in their claims.
