The Ta’ Qali National Park is being enlarged for the fourth time, with the adventure park set for completion in December.
This will be a unique attraction, featuring fitness equipment for adults as well as plenty of space for children to play and romp around in.
Resources Minister George Pullicino said the park will have five areas for children, one multi-purpose space, and a high rope course for young adults. More features will be added next year, such as a climbing tower and a cycling and jogging track, in the adventure park as well as around the picnic area.
The equipment being installed was bought with funds donated by the American Embassy. Bank of Valletta also contributed to the financing of the project, which has a total value of €1.3 million, the minister said.
The project includes five water features, public conveniences, catering facilities and changing rooms.

At the BOV Adventure park so far 460 trees together with 2,430 shrubs were planted. During the past five years at the Ta' Qali National Park 5,983 trees were planted together with 6,014 shrubs. This amounts to a total of 14,887 trees.

I was there last week and I was very disappointed at the selection of vegetation being planted there. Instead of going for native species that can take the local climate, I saw - apart from a few olive trees - hundreds and hundreds of what looked like Strelitzia (not sure as it was dark) plants in the ground or in pots ready for planting.
Why are we still so obsessed with exotics? Why can't planners take their pick from the wonderful palette of local flora? So much more practical, inexpensive and interesting for insect life.
I only walked as far as the squat ugly building in the middle (the one with the tiny wall-tiles reminiscent of oriental hamams). I hope at least that for the part beyond, presently still in initial landscaping, the planners give a thought for Myrtle and Lentisk, Wolfbane and Honeysuckle, Hawthorn and Buckthorn, Germander and Rosemary, Heath and Thyme, Caper and Spurge, Samphire and Silvery Ragwort, Rock-rose and Rock-centaury, and a hundred others.

that equipement under Malta's horrible summer sunshine is not equipped for outdoor activities. In 2 years time that plastic will be all ruined and money down the drain!!!

In addition to a park manager adequate lighting around the existing areas would be a good start - parts of the ring road are pitch black after sunset and it feels very unsafe to run or jog in the area. Apart from that you can't see the uneven ground and/or potholes in the dark so risk an injury

And unless the government appoints a Park Manager with supportive staff, to care for this adventure park, it will be just another playing field with vandalism, irresponsibility and arrogance taking over this site.. Let's wait and see.
