Sliema residents unite
The Sliema Residents Association has been revived to fend off the "unending pressures" on the town's environment.
The association has been dormant for a number of years, since the emergence of local councils, which many had thought would take on the role.
Now residents are arguing that more needs to be said and done and the association plans to work with the council to safeguard and improve Sliema's environment.
A provisional committee was nominated last May and the association's first annual general meeting will be held on Thursday at the Salesian's Oratory in Karm Galea Street, Sliema.
The meeting will offer residents the opportunity to voice their concerns.

Please note that the meeting will be held next Thursday at 7:30 pm at the Salesians Oratory infront of the St Patricks School. Hope to see loads of Sliema residents. SRA needs some encouragement.

Excellent. So glad since we have a TOTALLY USELESS LOCAL COUNCIL in Sliema. Keep up the good work SRA and stand up for our rights and needs in Sliema. Leave the Local Council to only see to the needs of the politicians they serve.

It is great that the resident's association is being revived. Let us not use it though, as a forum to complain, but rather as a platform to offer solution's based and constructive discussion. Sometimes, rather than opposing a proposal, we need to look at the best way to work through change to benefit all parties. Could we start with looking at the parking problems (which will never go away) and find an effective solution that spreads the burden without negatively impacting the minority. The proposed Balutta Square car park is once such proposal that needs intelligent discussion to find an effective solution.

This is indeed excellent news and as many Sliema residents should join in. The SRA's plans to work with the local council is certainly the way forward but it must also act as a pressure group, and for the Association to be effective, it needs numbers. Most residents complain about various issues but complaining will not improve matters. This is an opportunity for the residents to help themselves and attending the AGM will be a step in the right direction.
Spread the word!

I augur the Sliema Residents Association many years of united efforts to protect your town, as the case has been proven in Qawra and Bugibba, no one else will take up your plight and years of abuse and neglect will follow if you do not speak out.....
