Team members of Hilton Malta participated in a joint activity with Nature Trust (Malta) in a clean-up at Pembroke Ranges. This was part of European Mobility Week and International Coastal Clean up Day.

The event started with a short talk on ecology in Pembroke by NTM, followed by the Hilton team cleaning up an extensive part of the area. A truckload of garbage was collected from the site.

NTM president Vincent Attard thanked the Hilton for its initiative and said with Pembroke being so close to a tourism site, it was commendable to see such people working for the tourism industry through an environment clean-up. He urged other hotels to follow suit and contribute to protecting the environment.

Pembroke is visited by many tourists, especially Germans, who come to enjoy a Mediterranean habitat rich in orchids and wild flowers and also fauna, such as the hedgehog and chameleon. He thanked the Malta Tourism Authority and the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs for supporting the event and providing all that was needed for the clean-up.

Pembroke mayor Joseph Zammit said the council had been working hard to reduce dumping in the area but the situation was not easy.
