Two 40-foot containers are being filled with provisions as humanitarian aid for the Philippines which has been hit by flood killing 650 and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless.

The containers are being loaded at the Humanitarian Aid Unit in Marsa.

Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici visited this morning and said he was always amazed at the people’s response whenever appeals for assistance were made.

Such generosity and altruism were qualities which had been synonymous with the Maltese for many generations.

The minister said that disasters in other countries highlighted the importance for civil protection resources in Malta to be always prepared in the best way for anything that might happen.

Thanking department workers and volunteers, he said that an earthquake simulation exercise in Germany was attended by 25 members of the department who obtained excellent results.
