Teachers in State and Church schools have been directed by their union not to attend teacher-training courses organised after school hours until an agreement on such courses is reached with the authorities.

The Malta Union of Teachers complained that the courses, under the collective agreement, were meant to be the exception and not the rule and were usually held at the end or just before the start of the school year. The union was not against extra training but teachers had other commitments which had to be respected, the union insisted.
