Festival brings Qormi to life

An array of activities brought Qormi to life this evening in the third edition of the Casal Fornaro festival, which was spread over several squares and streets and many people braved the rain to attend the activities.
The aim of the festival, which started yesterday, was to showcase crafts and traditions.
Entertainment included the terramaxka, folk singing and local bands.
Seven band clubs named after Knights of St John performed together for the first time.
Visitors and residents were also entertained by several popular Maltese and Gozitan singers and dancers and feast decorations from various villages were on display.
Other attractions included a huge pudding and a life-size house of sweets.
A World War II shelter beneath the police station which has been restored by the Qormi police in their free time was open to visitors.
Food stalls served traditional dishes including the ftira, rabbit and pork served inside a Maltese loaf and other food linked to the culture of Qormi.
A variety of Maltese wines and traditional sweets were also on sale and Sicilian bakers provided their brand of bread.

A very big well done to the Qormi residents, the organisers, the Police for restoring the shelter and the Times for broadcasting such events.
These festivals attract high interest from tourism and locals alike. WELL DONE!

Well it's not like Qormi is always dead. However this festival together with others in Qormi and beyond are an excellent way to provide locals with an activity to recreate themselves, discover their locality and feel a sense of pride towards their community, as well as a way how to boost economic endeavours (especially in the case of SMEs) in these times of economic lacking. Pity the activity could not be pursued totally due to rain but that's not something the organisers of "Lejl f'Casal Fornaro" can tackle. A big well done and and a big thank you go to them and all the participants.
