27 pens for Czech President
Czech President Vaclav Klaus is receiving 27 EU pens along with letters asking him to sign the Lisbon Treaty.
The pens are being sent by the Young European Federalists (JEF) in all member states, including JEF Malta. Malta's letter is being sent in Maltese, English and Czech.
Vice President of the federalist organisation and co-ordinator of the YES2LISBON campaign Toni Giugliano said:
“Through this action we ask President Klaus to respect the will of the federal youths. This action is being done in the light of the Lisbon Treaty, in the view of creating a better Europe which will be more democratic and transparent.
“The Lisbon Treaty is essential to avoid the EU from further slowing its integration process. There’s not just the sixth European Parliament seat at stake for Malta if President Klaus doesn’t sign the Treaty. We need to move on as a Union and Lisbon is the way forward.
“Europe has been held back long enough. Klaus is simply finding ways of holding it back further.
“First he chooses to wait for Ireland’s referendum result. Then he completely ignores the Irish shout for change in Europe. Now he is even ignoring the will of both houses of the Czech parliament, causing the Czech cabinet to meet in emergency sessions,” he said.

Hardly a shout, more like a whimper.

If this is "completely ignoring the Irish shout for change in Europe," what was calling a second referendum after the first one got a No from the Irish public?

Well done JEF! President Klaus is only playing the nuisance at the detriment of the EU and the Commission and all its structures, other member states and above all his own country, as the Czech Parliament (which is elected by the population - thus representing it) has already ratified the treaty. He should stop this undemocratic behavior before the Czech Republic will be considered to be one of the weakest links in the European family.

27 eu states pressuring him to sign...I'm sure he will relent after some more threaths that czech economy will get in a mess if he doesn't sign the lisbon treaty.

Another typical waste by the EU of our money. (As if we needed another!)

Speaking of ignoring the voices, the EU has ignored the "No" from the Irish and, contrary to initial statements, went back to the Irish telling them to vote again on exactly the same text as they rejected.
No other country in the EU was given the chance to vote on the Lisbon Treaty, but most want the chance to vote.
This is as democratic as the Politburo or the system that puts commissioners in their jobs. We have no say in these matters and the pro-EU lobby wants us to have less.
A sixth seat? Pah! Waste of time. We'd have the same exposure with just two MEPs: Simon and Edward. For all the hype about this sixth seat in the EP there will be a difference only for the sitting MEP.
The Lisbon Treaty is by the EU scoundrels for the benefits of the EU scoundrels. It benefits the rest of us not one bit. Read it before you bleat with the rest of the sheep.
Come on, Czech Republic, keep stalling.
