Without compliments
Like our Minister of Finance, years ago I too used to receive complimentary invitations. I wonder why I no longer receive these now!

@ Joe Grima
it doesn't take a brain surgeon to realise that Dr. Psaila Savona'scomments were made with his tongue firmly in his cheek

Quite an intelligent short and to the point comment coming from an ex Parliamentary Secretary. I gives much wait to the current situation where such invitations cannot go unheaded. Had these been unearthed in foreign countries the Minister would have been compelled to resign, even though on face value, the person concerned could have been a super honest politician. The general public however is suspicious of the motives behind such actions. Good Joe PS may have been too good to be a politician and that is why he has not been elected any more.

Best letter so far for 2009. Short and Sweet. And coming from home turf...this must hurt.

The answer is that those who used to invite us when we were in power have nothing to gain from us now that we are out of it. One doesn't need to be a Pythagoras to figure out that those who otheriwse do not have access to people in power, and who, now and again issue invitations to them, do so for personal or other gain. That is why people in high places have to keep their nose clean in such matters, if not for anything, it is because the spotlight is never off. On the subject of invitations, does Joe Psaila Savona miss them? I certainly don't miss meeting the same people at any party, the same conversations, same complaints on same issues, same boredom. All this for a drink and a pastizz?
