The Malta Young Sailors Club recently held an end-of-term activity which was sponsored by Atlas Insurance.
The day kicked off with a series of relay races for the new Optimist sailors, many of whom as young as seven years old. All events were held on the waters, just off the club headquarters in St Paul's Bay.
Sailors were grouped into three teams, with each team sailing around an obstacle course on Optimists provided by the club.
The enthusiastic beginners all battled for first place, putting to good use the skills learnt over three months of sailing lessons, under the watchful eyes of junior coach Simon Psaila.
During a reception, Club Commodore Andre Borg and Malta Sailing Federation president Anna Rossi thanked parents for their initiative to introduce children to the sport and also for the support they gave throughout the summer sessions.
Now, the Malta Young Sailors Club are focusing on their new schedule which offers beginners the opportunity to continue with training sessions in the coming wintry months.
The club provides all beginners with Optimist boats and safety equipment, all under the supervision of qualified personnel.
