Maltese gaming licenses not illegal - MRGC
Maltese gaming licences were subject to strict anti-money laundering procedures as well as rigorous monitoring and controls and were not illegal, the Malta Remote Gaming Council said in a statement.
It said that although the European Court of Justice ruled, on a number of occasions, that member states could not stop cross border gaming services offered by private companies licensed in other member states, these rules were repeated ignored by jurisdictions who referred to legal licenses as being illegal.
Such accusations were firvolous and unfounded and most of the member states that were making these claims hadinfringement procedures against them.
The MRGC asked who was going to be held responsible for any potential losses incurred duethese accusations. It reiterated that the council intended to use every means available to it by law to protect its members and the industry.

Gordon,
I dont mind gambling as such, what i do mind is that gambling is ok as long as its someone elses problem. So either gambling is bad and than you block it for everyone, maltese and remote, or you accept it for everyone, its as simple as that.

Alex, like it or not these companies bring a lot of very useful revenue both from taxes and from employing the locals... As for gambling being evil sure but governments have no problem with that - they only have problems when they can't tax it!!
Also, and perhaps unfortunate Malta will always stand to benefit when there are divisions between countries and wars - we are small and to survive and be competitive we have to accept this fact.

So Sean, you mean its ok that people suffer from gaming problems in the rest of the world and that companies in Malta and maltese people should be proud that they make a living on addictions?

Alfred/Adrian:
You do realise REMOTE gaming refers to online gambling and not the random shops that opened up? Do you realise the amount of jobs REMOTE gambling has created? And the HUGE amount of money injected in Malta? Online betting companies can be accessed whether hosted in Malta or abroad, but when hosted in Malta we gain a lot more. You're both really quick to jump on the bandwagon but you don't even know where it's headed!!

The question is not about legality...it is about civic responsibility. Can any one of these outlets quantify the amount of tax being paid as a result of the income from theses gambling machines or is their head at rest because they pay a little licence to infest Malta with these machine more than mushrooms grow in Busketto. Besides is the payout controlled or do they arrange according to time and need.....Go on Tonio next in line should be illegal gambling which too has taken over all round the island with Primas now also begin organised with the first Super5 drawn number.. Again what are these outlets paying to the public coffers...instead they are financing their weekly insurance stamp as aginst legally approved outlets who have to pay to the nearest cent since they have to sell their product through a computer. And lastly where are the Police and the gaming Authority inspectors...
