The University Students' Council is making available a fund of €25,000 to students to ease their "financial burden" when it comes to conferences, seminars and resources that cannot be covered by their stipends.

KSU president Carl Grech said the grant was not a loan and was an investment in Malta's higher education and enhancement of student mobility.

The council launched the fund as part of its activities during Freshers Week and said that eligibility for the grant would be decided by a board that would be specifically appointed.

Applications for the Student Opportunity Fund will remain open until November 5 and will open again between February 2 and March 2 .
