Outbound Maltese tourists for August were estimated at 32,793, down by 12.2 percent when compared to the corresponding month last year.
The National Statistics Office said that 86.6 percent of Maltese tourists, travelled by air. The majority - 82.8 percent, went to EU destinations, the most popular being Italy and the UK. But an estimated 5,643 outbound tourists opted for non-EU destinations.
The 25-44 age bracket accounted for the majority of travellers.
Between January and August, the number of Maltese travellers amounted to 195,903, down by 2.6 percent, when compared to the same period last year.
