Indecent behaviour
Xwejni Bay in Gozo is often used by children bathers and a room on the beach is used by Franciscan and Salesian Sisters as a changing room when they go swimming. We cannot tolerate public indecency such as that reported to have taken place there in the item entitled Czech Couple Admits Offending Public Morals (October 9).

I am not going to talk about indecent behaviour but a component of behaviour which catches my eye everytime I see it. It is lack of smartmess, a lack of sharpness, ill fitting clothes and obesity with overhanging tummies in uniformed personnel and fuzzy hair and chest on the hair showing conspicuously, and colourful shorts and an unclean disorganised look due to a tired look.
I often find a selection of the above components on university grounds and in traffic wardens and other uniformed people, where I expect uniformed people to radiate and project a self discipled organised look for others to appreciate in silence. A straight back, head held high , radiating confidence. I hate seeing an overhanging tummy, and a cigarette but, ill fitting cap on a uniformed man. I remember seeing a platoon of soldiers marching with such a powerful step all in phase showing that their brain is sharply tuned and for onlooker to rest assure themselves that they are in good hands who radiate security and exactness. I cannot say that I feel like that when I see some uniformed people or university lecturers and students who are tomorrow's potential leaders. Not the expected Radiance!!!!

It's a pity that George Vella tends to put more importance on what he terms to be 'public indecency' than that indecency which is kept hidden within families!

@ George Vella. Sorry, I have just reread the report. It says that a "czech couple admitted a charge of offending public morals". That is the extent of the detail I could find. So what public indecency are you talking about? Do you know what happened? Did you read something different to me? Is this an assumption on your part, that it was public indecency?

Maybe the time has arrived where we can have remote nude beaches in Gozo example between Ramla and San Blas Bays. It will be good for tourism. That will go well with the Eco Gozo plan.

Yesterday walking down to the strand in Sliema , I noticed a young couple sitting at one of those bars which take up most of the pavement. The male was not even wearing a shirt, and his trousers were cut so low that one could see his horrible bottom. Other customers were sitting down eating and drinking with this disgusting sight in front of them. Can someone please enforce a bit of decorum?

And in fact it seems that it is not being tolerated. After all the couple were charged, taken to court and convicted.

Dear George,
Does the fact that this beach is used by Fransiscan and Salesian sisters have any bearing on the offense?? I think not, it would be ridiculous in the extreme to suggest that just because members of some group of society or some ecclesiastical organisation frequent a particular location then any act taking place there which offends public morals is any more serious . . . ! An act which offends public morals under the law is just that, an act which offends public morals period . . . regardless of the location and the users of the place . . . we are all equal in the eyes of the law and there are no special privileges for any sector of society!
