While not wishing to appear biased in the highly contentious polemic surrounding cyclists versus motorists (I have a foot in both camps), I was pondering on why it is that only those who travel on our roads utilising a mechanically-driven vehicle are legally compelled to possess insurance coverage, a road licence or comply with safety requirements (especially in the hours of darkness) for this privilege?
