Excelsior hotel recognised for staff's exceptional actions
The Grand Hotel Excelsior has been chosen as the most philanthropic hotel in the world by the Preferred Hotel Group's GIFTTS programme.
The Preferred Hotel Group represents a collection of more than 600 premier luxury hotels and resorts in some of the most celebrated detinations in the world. The majority of these hotels and resorts provide committed action programmes within their own respective communities.
The GIFTTS (Great Initiatives for Today's (Tomorrow's) Society) programme was created to recognise exceptional actions on the part of member hotels and employees in the three areas of philanthropy, environment and community to encourage best practice by member hotels.
The Excelsior was recognised for its contributions to all the three areas.
The hotel's human resources department has been the driving force behind the success of this Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.
Besides the business of building a five-star luxury reputation for its guests, the said hotel embodies a number of corporate values that complement the brand values of five-star service and cuisine.
The generosity of the Excelsior's employees could be witnessed during the hotel's second anniversary celebrations.
A week-long series of activities was held to collect money for the Malta Community Chest Fund, raising a considerable sum. To improve the quality of life for its guests, employees and its local community, Excelsior's Aid the Community Committee contributes its support with ongoing initiatives like blood donations, voluntary work with the elderly, visits to children's centres and animal shelters. Aid the Community works with the Excelsior's Green Committee on environmental programmes.
This committee helps to protect and sustain the environment through sustainable business practices, focusing on key issues like energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation and pollution reduction.
At the same time, the Green Committee ensures that the Excelsior is compliant with local and international regulations.

Good luck for the team at Hotel Excelsior but unfortunately when we stayed there in September, we had an unpleasant experience, not worthy of a 5 star hotel and its luxury and sumptuous interior and exterior. 2 days after leaving because of a cold due to the high AC, I realised I had lost my sunglasses which I had not used on going out as it was raining and I had stayed in after.I phoned twice, the first time to tell them and the second to explain why I had only noticed then and to tell them that I might have left them in the room as I had changed glasses and might have put the reading glasses in the sun glasses`pocket. I was told that the housekeeper would be asked and I would be notified if they were found. On not receiving any answer, when the hotel celebrated their 2nd anniversary, I e-mailed the MHRA to complain as they had not even bothered to ask e what glasses they were etc and to date have not received anything from either. Is that customer care for you from a 5star hotel? I will not suggest the hotel to anyone.
