Many letters and articles appearing in the newspapers about divorce have recently shown how far we have drifted away from what marriage ought to be.

I agree with Mgr Anton Gouder. I am sure he is very sorry and worried about the broken marriages that exist today in Malta.

If there has to be a discussion about divorce let its conclusion be that every married person must do her/his utmost to preserve their marriage vows.

I think the sooner we correct some family habits, the quicker many family problems can be solved. We can start by giving our children a good example, always. At home, children can be trained to be happy with what they have and not try to compete with their friends. There should be discipline at home. It is the first place where they are taught to make sacrifices for others, to control themselves in every way. It is important to learn how to be unselfish. If children are given everything they want, when they grow up they will expect to get what they want and whoever they fancy, whether it is right or wrong.

Besides adultery, during these last few months, murder is on the increase in Malta. It seems that sometimes immorality and violence are connected.

It is important to pull ourselves together and try to amend what is going wrong in the Maltese family. Let us not forget to pray together.
