The police are investigating a man suspected of having beaten up his son's two dogs before dumping them in a skip in Ħal Far last Sunday.
Sources said the two dogs were discovered by Birżebbuġa police officers after a tip-off about the animals inside the skip. They found the dogs in two bags. The animals were badly injured, one of them with deep wounds to its head.
The police called the animal ambulance, operated by Noah's Ark, which took the dogs under its care.
Sources close to the investigations said there were a number of eyewitnesses who saw a man hitting the dogs before dumping them in the skip close to the Ħal Far open centre.
When contacted, a spokesman for Noah's Ark confirmed the dogs were under its care. He said the dogs were still suffering from the trauma and were scared of anyone who approached them. In fact, they were being patiently hand-fed.
