A man and a woman were yesterday charged with breaking into several cars and stealing a cash register from a shop in Gozo.

Patrick Mangion, 36, of Qormi and Carmela Camilleri, 38, of Għargħur appeared before Magistrate Edwina Grima in the Gozo courts and pleaded not guilty to stealing from cars parked in Qala and taking the cash register from a shop in Xagħra on Wednesday evening. Mr Mangion was also charged with assaulting the police at the Victoria police station.

He was remanded in police custody and Ms Camilleri was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000.

Police Inspector Josric Mifsud prosecuted.
