New Year's bash on St Anne Street planned
Floriana is planning a New Year's Eve street party on St Anne Anne Street which it hopes will attract thousands of people.
The council said it plans to utilise most of the wide street for a range of activities culminating in the countdown to 2010. Council officials pointed out that while such open-air activities are popular abroad, none are held here - the last was held for the millennium.
A number of entertainers have already confirmed their participation including Mark Spiteri Lucas, Ivan Spiteri Lucas, Charlene and Natasha Girma, Miriam Christine Borg, Claudia Faniello, Joe Demicoli and DJ Ron.
There will be a children's section, food stalls and fireworks to see in the New Year with a bang.
The activity will be coordinated by Leon Promotions.

I am imagining what will happen next...Restaurant owners will start protesting that this event will rob them of much awaited business( sub standard food is what you eat normally)..Hope those concerned will not bow to any undue pressure and go ahead with this much awaited celebration

Best news I head so far this year...we have needed this sort of entertainment for YEARS!!!! Why should we celebrate New Year's Eve in a restaurant instead of outside with friends...save ourselves some cash too! Book me 20 places!
