The Mepa board this morning approved the next phase of the SmartCity development in Ricasoli, focusing on excavation works.

The works are expected to be divided into several phases focused on the lagoon area followed by the commercial area, including a large underground car park, and an area near Fort St. Rocco.

A 10 m buffer outside the schedule perimeter was agreed with the applicant so as not to damage nearby scheduled property and the foreshore.

Most of the excavated material is to be reused on the project.
