In a stressful world most people dream of ways to remain sane amid the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Taiji – a Chinese system of meditative physical exercise designed for relaxation, balance and health – could be one way of keeping one’s cool.

Taiji features slow flowing movements and shifts of balance that strengthen the body, and enhance resilience and flexibility. It is a martial art utilising internal energy.

Focusing on the mind, it helps dissipate stress and reduce stress-related debilities, increases stamina and strengthens the body and will.

Chinese Taiji Master Huang Kanghui who will be brought over by the China Cultural Centre in Valletta will be holding a workshop at St James Centre for Creativity in Valletta between October 26 and November 1.

The workshop will consist of seven sessions of Yang style Taiji Quan between 6 and 7 p.m. and the same number of sessions in Chen style Taiji Quan between 7.45 and 8.45 p.m.

Huang Kanghui who lectures at the Beijing Sports University, is the holder of China’s National Wushu Championship and is a gold medalist of Taiji Pushing Hands, Taiji Quan and Taiji Sword for eight consecutive years.

He has been invited teach Taiji on China Central TV and conduct workshops in the US, France, Italy, Spain, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand and Japan among other countries.
