Astra to stage Rigoletto

Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto is to be staged at the Astra Theatre in Gozo as part of the Mediterranea Festival at the end of this month.

Direction is in the hands of Mario Corradi while the more renowned artistes include tenor Antonio Interisano as the Duke of Mantua and soprano Miriam Cauchi as Gilda, Emilia Boteva as Maddalena and bass Franco De Grandis as Sparafucile.

Accompanying them will be the National Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Joseph Vella, together with the Astra Theatre Opera Chorus under the leadership of Maria Frendo.

Other events in the festival include tours around St George’s Basilica in Victoria, home to fine art works such as Mattia Preti, as well as lectures by leading UK archaeologist and scholar David Trump at historical and archaeological sites.
