Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz has added Malaga striker Edinho to the squad for the World Cup Group One qualifiers at home to Hungary on Oct. 10 and Malta four days later.
The Portuguese Football Federation (www.fpf.pt) said in a statement on its website that several players were injured. Glasgow Rangers midfielder Pedro Mendes has also been added to the squad.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who sprained an ankle playing for Real Madrid in the Champions League last week, should be fit for the match against Hungary.
Midfielders Tiago, Nuno Assis, Duda and Chelsea right-back Jose Bosingwa are hoping to shake off knocks in time for the qualifiers.
Portugal, third in Group One, must win both matches and hope Sweden drop points to reach the playoffs.
