The Malta Billiards & Snooker Association (MBSA) 2009/10 season got under way on Monday with the preliminary round matches from the first ranking event.
This is the first from five ranking tournaments this season along with the national championships in both snooker and billiards.
As in previous years, the tournaments will be played in various clubs. In all, 67 players have registered to play. Points will be awarded for the various stages to establish the top players in Malta.
Currently, Malta champion Alex Borg is heading the provisional list followed by Duncan Bezzina and Simon Zammit.
Matches will be played every evening with the final scheduled for October 16 at the 147 Snooker Hall, Ħamrun.
The season will then continue on October 26 with the second ranking event. The national championships are scheduled for November 9.
Maltese players will then participate in the IBSF World Championships in India, between November 15 and 29.
