Magistrate rebukes migrants over fights
Accused get stern telling off
A magistrate yesterday told four illegal immigrants that if they wanted to fight among themselves they should go elsewhere as such incidents were becoming far too regular.
Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona issued the strong warning to three immigrants accused of attempted murder and another charged in a separate arraignment with the illegal possession of a knife.
Somalis Adan Mohammed Abdulhakim, 22, Essa Mahmud Ismail, 24 and Jama Hassan Abdulkani, 24, pleaded not guilty to attempting to kill Jamal Hassan Abdullahi at around 8 p.m. at the Marsa Open Centre on Saturday.
They also denied seriously injuring him and illegally carrying a knife.
In a second arraignment, Yassin Ibrahim Mahdi, 22, pleaded not guilty to being in possession of a knife in an unrelated incident on Monday at around 2 p.m.
Magistrate Micallef Trigona denied the men bail and gave them a stern telling off. He told them they were guests in this country and far too many incidents of this nature were happening. If they wanted to pick fights they should go elsewhere, he warned them.
Police Inspectors Alexander Grech and Chris Pullicino prosecuted.
Lawyer Mark Busuttil appeared for the men.
