Energy saving bulbs distribution resumes
The government's energy-saving bulbs distribution scheme has been continued after importers agreed to lift court action they had been taking against each other, the Malta Resources Authority (MRA) said this afternoon.
A court last week provisionally upheld a request for a prohibitory injunction to stop the scheme. The request was made by ESS Ltd after it was stopped from distributing Megaman bulbs under the scheme following similar court action by its competitors. They had complained that the company did not submit samples of its bulbs to the Malta Resources Authority for testing as required but was still included in the scheme.
The MRA said that after its mediation, the importers had now agreed to stop all court actions. Those holding vouchers could, therefore exchange them for bulbs by the end of this month.
The Authority said it is in the process of sending vouchers to those who had not received them and to those who were eligible for more bulbs that originally indicated in their vouchers.

I just redeemed my voucher and, yes, I got Megaman ultra compact candle lamps to replace my chandeliers' lamps. My house has been littered with energy saving lamps for more than 20 years. Now it was time to change my candle lamps.
But they all lit after 1 second not 1 minute as you stated. Maybe you should check your switch contacts, or maybe you are referring to the time taken for the lamp to emit its optimum light.
Well, if it's the latter, ALL energy saving lamps take a few seconds to warm up and give the brightness that one expects. In fact, if you switch off an energy saving lamp (that has been on for some time) and switch it back on, it lights up with the optimum brightness.

Why wait for Megaman because of small screw on? I bought GE which have that size of screw. Yes megaman are good - no diubt about it, but so are the others. Umbad wara kollox, when one burns out, I can always buy megaman.
It is also trie that megaman (some of them I assume) take a long time to come to full power, ideally you buy those for rooms that tend to be on for a long time.

Apart from giving your comments, I invite you to go and spend some time (like I did) into Megaman's web site, where you'll find the different technologies used in the production of the energy saving bulbs. And I'm sure that such different technologies aren't only used by Megaman. Maybe then you'll understand why they take long to come on.
FYI, Megaman have energy saving lamps that keep emitting light AFTER you switch off (not offered in the scheme).
Obviously, due to cost, not all lamps are available in this scheme, but then the other distributors only offered one kind of lamp. Maybe that's why they took it against Megaman suppliers - cos they saw their lamps sitting idle on the ironmongers' shelves!

You might be one of the many who might have done so but I now quite a lot who decided to wait and not take anything. Once there was a court case everything was on hold but it did not me that those who did not redeem the vouchers would be kept with nothing, the government would have even extended the final date in which case I presume that he will do so now as vouchers have still to be issued.

Do you mean you wanted the small screw bulbs which take nearly one minute to light up. Cause I got the Megaman (candle light) lamps and sicovered, to my astonishement they they take nearly one minute to light up. Where samples of these bulbs ever presented to MRA?

Thanks for nothing. I needed badly the Megaman small screw bulbs and shapes. Not being able to get them meant using my coupons on other bulbs. Why cannot we ever do anything well in Malta; even when we give things out for free?
